| PIPING GIANTS HIT THE RIGHT NOTES
Dumfries is to host a grand charity gala concert featuring world class pipe band, The Simon Fraser University Pipe Band of Burnaby (SFUPB), from British Columbia, Canada.
The concert will take place at Dumfries Academy Hall at 7.30pm on Tuesday 7 August, with proceeds from the event going to Marie Curie Cancer Care.
Detective Inspector Grahame Young has organised the event , which is a major scoop in attracting another internationally renowned pipe band to Dumfries and Galloway.
The concert will be an extremely rare event in piping circles, as top class pipe bands such as SFUPB rarely play small venues.
Led by Pipe Major Terry Lee and Lead Drummer J. Reid Maxwell and wearing the Ancient Clan Fraser tartan, the band consists of a talented core of over thirty players which has a huge following around the world.
They won the World Pipe Band Championships in 1995, 1996, 1999 & 2001. The band has also been placed second seven times - finishing in the top two in the world in 11 of its 25 years.
The band has produced nine recordings, two concert/documentary videos, and appeared on four BBC Radio Scotland broadcasts and has performed many concerts, most notably at the Sydney Opera House in Australia and at Carnegie Hall, New York City.
Detective Inspector Graeme Young said: "After the success of the recent visit from the Field Marshall Montgomery Pipe Band, we are proud to host another well respected pipe band.
"Dumfries is building a reputation for attracting the best the piping world has to offer and I hope people come along to enjoy the concert again this year.
"It is for a very worthwhile cause and will be a hugely entertaining evening."
Tickets for the concert are on sale from Saturday 19 May and cost £12.50 for the stalls and £15 for the balcony.
To book tickets, please contact Carrie Caldow or telephone 01387 242204, or visit the Marie Curie Cancer Care Charity Shop, 178 High Street, Dumfries.
