ROBERT GIBB is the youngest member of the band. Robert lives in Lochmaben and is studying at Dumfries Academy. He is eventually going to University to become a drain on the state. 2005 is Robert's first year in a competative band and we wish him well.

When Did You Start Playing And Who With?

I started in 1998, at the age of 10, with Jim McConnachie, in what eventually became the Corberry Park Pipers.

What Inspired You To Start Playing?

Seeing DGCPB on parade locally, and at competitions like Cowal. (I was only three or four then.)

What Other Bands Do You Like To See And Hear?

Field Marshal and St. Laurence O’Toole. ( I haven’t been out much at pipe band competitons, so this might change)

Who/What Has Influenced You In Your Playing?

My teacher Jim McConnachie, and more recently, P/Sgt Alan Maltman who’s been guiding me through the solos. Also listening to top players such as Willie McCallum and Angus MacColl.

Do You Have Any Favourite Tunes Or Musical Pieces?

Marches, Strathspeys and Reels, such as The Glengarry Gathering, The Lonach Gathering, MacBeth’s Strathspey, Bob of Fettercairn, Johnnie MacDonald’s Reel, and Alick Cameron.

What Other Hobbies Do You Have?

Gastronomic devises, I'm a dab hand in the kitchen! Keeping Fit. (I have a tendancy to trundle occasionally along the streets of Dumfries). Drawing and painting (not quite Claude Monet).

Are there any particular pipe band or solo performances that stand out in your mind?

Having only ever been to Cowal in terms of pipe band competitions, I always enjoy Field Marshal’s performance there. At the local piping club, Willie McCallum is always good.

What do you do for a living

I’m in sixth year at school at the moment, which is apparently still called full time education. After that, I’m taking a gap with lot’s of hard work, a bit of travel and plenty of piping. After that I’m hopefully going to Aberdeen University to study Finance and Geography.

What Other Types Of Music Do You Like To Listen To?

Classics from the sixties such as Deep Purple and Stray, and new up and coming bands, such as the Kaiser Chiefs, Cherry Falls, and Dogs Die in Hot Cars. Also, I do enjoy a good bit of Stylophone playing now and again.

What other hobbies do you have?

Well I do a bit of cycling and very occasionally go sailing, and now and again write a tune or a sketch. Also watching classic comedy such as Phoenix Nights and Monty Python, I find pretty good.

Do You Play Any Other Instruments?

Yes, Scottish Smallpipes (which I got courtesy of BBC Fame Academy), some tin whistle, and sometimes I dabble in a bit of bongo playing. Play as part of the best traditional music band ever to come out of Dumfries, "Reels to Revolutions."

What's Been The Best Band Trip (Not Necessarily With D&G Police)?

I haven’t been on any trips with the band yet, but the Elgin trip with Corberry was rather good banter.

What, If Anything Annoys You In The Pipe Band World?

I haven’t been in it long, so I haven’t got any gripes at the moment.

What Are The Highlights Of Your Playing Career?

Winning third for S+R at the Royal National Mod in Perth 2004 was quite good, as it was my first taste of success on the junior scene in Scotland. Also joining DGCPB last year, who I’m sure I’ll have many highlights with in the years to come.

And Are There Any Low Points?

Not yet, it has been one non-stop journey full of fun so far.

What Are Your Goals Within The Pipe Band World?

To make DGCPB look cool.

What is it like being the youngest member of the pipe corps?

It has its advantages: Being the youngest, I’m one of only a handful not to be equipped with ’wobbling midriff’, and I can't buy a round yet (damn!!!). Also I’ve learned a fine extension to my vocabulary in terms of adjectives.

Finally, If You Could Be Re-Incarnated As Anyone, At Any Point In History, Who Would It Be?

Mike Palin from Monty Python, what a legend!!
